All travel is a gift, but traveling with another person is a rare privilege of insight. To travel with a friend is to find a new closeness and to see the world in a whole new light.

Though I have traveled to Iceland again and again, I saw it through new eyes by traveling with National Geographic photographer Annie Griffiths.  For the last twelve days, she has shown me the strange light of the north, exhibited the joy of a traveler in love with the earth, and taught me the rare patience of someone in search of the very best images.

Traveling also reveals a deeper side of one’s self, and as we circumnavigated the astounding island of Iceland, I learned what Annie cares about: good light, amazing moments, creative compositions, making the most of things, and the plight of women and girls around the world.

This video recap shows some of the brilliant moments we shared in a country I love dearly. I am so grateful to have traveled with Annie and to share with you some of the things she taught me.
