Kiev Guide in Russian

2 min readLong before I became the digital nomad, I was a print nomad who wrote travel guides that cover some of my favorite places in the world.
For all the joys and hard work that goes into a book, I’ve found that seeing said book appear in another language is most gratifying–especially when the guidebook comes out in the native language of the destination covered. After years of hoping and wishing it would happen, my Kiev guidebook was finally released in Russian. Bот он!
Methinks the Russian version came out just in time for the UEFA Euro 2012 Football Tournament which will take place this summer both in Kiev, Ukraine (as well as Poland). For those of you who’ve never considered Kiev to visit, let me convince you!
Kiev is one of my favorite cities in the world: ancient and architecturally beautiful, vibrant, artistic, alive and filled with flowering chestnut trees. I love it so much I try to go at least once a year.
Following my book on Ukraine, I wrote the English-language Kiev: The Bradt Travel Guide, which was the first English-language guide for that city since Ukraine’s independence. The Russian version is almost the same book with obvious updates and a few special additions. Among them is a descriptive 2-hour walking tour through the little-known back streets of Kiev. I designed the walk based on all my favorite buildings and alleyways in the most ancient part of Ukraine’s capital.
To those who helped get this book out, I say Спасибо and here’s hoping we’ll see a Ukrainian version sometime soon. Надеемся!
