Gal Holiday & The Honky Tonk Revue

Another night, another great musical discovery.

I have to say, the music never stops in this city on the river. After a luscious meal at Arnaud’s, I head on over to Mimi’s in the Marigny, a bar and music club that’s so effortlessly cool, I felt all the cool seep into me the second I put my foot inside the doorway. Like so many great New Orleans clubs, Mimi’s is refreshingly concept-free: it’s a down-to-earth bar defined entirely by the chilled-out set of musicians and the many music-lovers gathered there on any given night, .

Upstairs, I caught Gal Holiday & The Honky Tonk Revue rocking away with her big country voice and big country band. After so much (great) jazz, it was a delight to catch something so different and fun. The band was having a blast on stage and the singer crooned something lovely and dance-worthy. After the first minute of listening I decided that Gal Holiday was probably my first big New Orleans musical crush. Seriously, this woman sings so deliciously, she needs her own wine pairing.

Here’s a quick clip of the lovely Gal Holiday as I heard her last night. Watch my more indulgent director’s cut of her Elvis Presley cover or simply check out her YouTube Channel.

Thanks for the music Gal and keep singing!
